[HÉNAULT (Charles-Jean-François)]. A New Chronological Summa - Lot 57
[HÉNAULT (Charles-Jean-François)]. A New Chronological Summary of the History of France, covering the events of our history from Clovis to Louis XIV, including wars, battles, sieges, etc., as well as our laws, customs, and traditions, etc. New edition, revised, corrected, and expanded. [Continued from the death of Louis XIV to the Peace of 1783, by Antoine-Etienne-Nicolas des Odooards-Fantin, Vicar General of Embrun]. Paris, Prault the Elder, Prault the Elder Son, Desaint, Saillant, Durand, 1775–1788, 5 vols. small 8vo, porphyry calfskin, decorated ribbed spine, gilt fillets framing the edges, marbled edges (contemporary binding). The most complete edition from the Ancien Régime, bringing together the definitive text revised by President Hénault and published in the illustrated edition of 1768 (included in the first three volumes), as well as the continuation by Fantin-Desodoards (the last two volumes). A fine copy bearing the bookplate of Mr. Terray, Intendant of Lyon. The spines are decorated with a bird-shaped embossing. Since the last two volumes were published 14 years after Volume 3, the color of the volume number is green rather than lemon.
