Emmanuel LE MAOUT (Guingamp 1799-1877), naturalist and botanist, author of a Traité général de botanique descriptive et analytique illustrated with 5,500 figures. 2 autograph letters signed to "monsieur et honoré confrère". 5 pp. in-8 and in-12. Paris and Louannec (Perros-Guirec), 1870-1872. "I have received the two Lichens & Champignons copies of your Crytogamie, as well as the four moss & lichen fascicles that accompanied them [...]. At the same time, I gave him a 3rd edition copy of my Leçons élémentaires de Botanique, which I beg you to accept. He explains why he has no color copies. "I would very much like to send you my volume on botany from the Jardin des Plantes; but this work is no longer on the market & I have only one copy, which is in tatters [...]". He hopes to receive him soon in Brittany and show him all the botanical riches of the region; then he comments on Mabille's catalog. "I don't know if the Breton part of our department is as rich as the one he explored, & which is exclusively French. I doubt that we have 243 species of muscinea here, if we are to judge our terrestrial cryptogams by our phanerogams, by comparing them with the Flore de Dinan-st Malo [...]".
