"Copy of letter addressed from London on September 6, 1841 by Dr. Louis Leihhardt to G. Durando in Paris, rue Cope. Durando in Paris, rue Copeau", on preparations for his trip to Australia. Recounts his meeting with William Hooker and Pamplin in London - who gave him information on New Holland and New Zealand and contacts in both countries; he also talks about his visit to Kew Botanical Gardens. He gives details of his journey to Sydney, where he is determined to go despite being discouraged by everyone, as his ship is due to leave on October 16. "[...] It's not Swan River and the Western Coasts but New Zealand which is the least known, and where a botanist could make the richest harvest. WITHERELL to Durando, in English, in pencil (1 p. in-8), Leichhardt mentions his name in the letter "Give my compliments to mons. and mad. Witherell and tell him that I have put his letters [...]".
