Ernest ANDRÉ (Beaune 1838-1914), entomologist, specialist in - Lot 1
Ernest ANDRÉ (Beaune 1838-1914), entomologist, specialist in Hymenoptera, member of the Société Entomologique de France. Autograph letter signed to "monsieur et cher collègue", 2 pp. in-8. Gray ((Haute-Saône), July 26, 1883. Back from a long trip to Auvergne, he replies to his observations. "The question of the relationship between ants and Homoptera larvae has just been confirmed by your interesting observation and, since the fact has been noted in France, there is no longer any reason to suspect the accounts of travelling naturalists who make these larvae the ordinary livestock of exotic ants, especially in Brazil where Homoptera would almost completely replace aphids as a milk cow. It would be desirable for all naturalists to imitate your example [...]. If the fact may interest you, I will tell you that the ant you captured is Myrmica cavinodis nyl. [...] ".
