AFRICA. [GEORGES AND PIERRE D'ESPAGNAT]. Archives of Eugène Godefroy (1862-1928), lawyer, royalist activist, founder of the Jeunesse Royaliste. He joined L'oeillet Blanc and the Ligue de la Patrie française, and chaired the Monarchical Union group of the Molé-Tocqueville Conference (in 1896). During the investigation of the coup d'état, he was arrested on August 12, 1899 and was defended in the High Court (Senate constituted as a Court of Justice) by Master Lemarignier and acquitted by the minority of favor. He published several works, in particular on the Moroccan protectorate. - Georges d'ESPAGNAT (1870-1950), post-impressionist and symbolist painter, co-founder of the Salon d'Automne. 20 L.A.S. to Eugène Godefroy. 65 pp. in-8 (and in-4). 1902-1908. Beautiful correspondence dedicated to the death of his brother, the explorer Pierre d'Espagnat, and to his succession. - Pierre d'Espagnat (1869-1902), explorer of South America and Black Africa, died at 33 years old in Grand-Bassam. Interesting file on the exploration and mining business that Pierre d'Espagnat had undertaken in the Ivory Coast, obtaining gigantic concessions of several tens of thousands of hectares. Letters, typescripts, contracts, etc. There is a letter dated Jacqueville (Ivory Coast) written on September 5, 1902 by his fellow traveler, Henry, in which he recounts, day by day, the agony of Pierre d'Espagnat. Some letters are on the letterhead of the Société Minière de l'Afrique Occidentale de Grand-Bassam. - Scattered manuscripts of Eugène Godefroy, in particular an important fragment of his work Les bases du protectorat français au Maroc (published in 1912). - Important correspondence to be studied of more than 250 letters received by Eugène Godefroy.
