Étienne GILSON (1884-1978), philosopher. 4... - Lot 281 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Étienne GILSON (1884-1978), philosopher. 4 autograph letters signed to Alexandre Koyré. 3 pp. in-4 and 2 pp. in-8. Paris and Vermanton, 1940-1961. Two moving letters written during the occupation when Alexandre Koyré joined the Free French Forces and then the United States. Gilson writes a long letter of recommendation for Koyré, in English, to be introduced to his American colleagues at Harvard, professors Wolfson and Perry. "I hope, in spite of everything, that France will one day come out of the nightmare that we are living together and that we will still have, before dying, a few hours to exchange ideas as we liked to do. God keep us and help you, my dear friend [...]". The other two letters, written after the war, are pretexts for discussions about books by Alexandre Koyré.
