Adrien RAFFENEAU-DELILE (1773-1843), botanist, agronomist and engineer, he took part in the Expedition of Egypt. 2 autograph letters signed to Henri Lecoq. 1 p. ½ in-8 and 1 p. in-4. Address on the back. Montpellier, 1833-1840. He recommends him Mr Hammersley "American from New York, doctor my colleague, son of one of my teachers when I lived in New York. Mr. Hammersley is very well versed in the newest publications in science [...]". In a second letter, he needs gentian "croisette". "Have me collect three or four feet of gentian cruciata, half a dozen even if the plant is common enough in your country, have them pulled up with all the roots, choose them of perfect size and age, have the roots cleaned from their soil, well wrapped with fresh moss, without breaking them, and send them to me promptly in a package by the stagecoach. I absolutely need them. Nothing more singular than this organographic root. Please help me to finish a work I have started and in which it appears [...]".
