Alfred MOQUIN-TANDON (1804-1863), botanist. 2... - Lot 89 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Alfred MOQUIN-TANDON (1804-1863), botanist. 2 autograph letters signed to Henri Lecoq. 3 pp. in-8. Toulouse, 1848-1850. Address on the back. Headers of the Jardin des Plantes of the city of Toulouse. He thanks him for the sending of his last work. "It deals with a flora that I studied a lot in my youth, I want to speak about the one of the Cevennes. I have not forgotten the unfortunately too short moments that we spent together. On my return from Geneva and Paris, I started, macte animo, the definitive writing of my contingent of the Prodrome. I have finished the Phytolacceae and I am at the end of the Chenopodae. These two families form about two thirds of the whole work. I still have the Baselaccae and the Amarantaceae. My four families will make up a ½ volume and begin the tribe of Monochlamydae. My half volume will form the second half of volume XIII, the first half being reserved for the Dunal solanaceae. For the past two years I have left the eggs to sleep. I will come back to them later. However, I have received from Africa several very curious species that are entirely new. One of my former students, attached to the ambulances, is, at this moment, at a great distance from Algiers, in an extremely deserted place; he wants to think of me. I have thus obtained eggs from the Namidian Miss (from the Tachydrome of the great Ganga, etc.). I have the egg of the cheetah. I thank you for the one you offer me. I accept your plants from the central plateau [...]". In his second letter he informs him that he has just been officially charged by the government with the Flora of Corsica.
