Jacques TRIPET (1749-?), famous gardener... - Lot 50 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Jacques TRIPET (1749-?), famous gardener and grain grower under the Empire and the Restoration, called "the first minister of Flore". L.A.S. addressed to the Marquis de Montmorency. Paris, October 10, 1816. 2 pp. in-4. Address on the back of the second leaf. Astonishing document of the former great florist of Charles X, fallen into poverty: " I used to enjoy a kind of fame that I did not deserve but the demon of envy, jealousy and even domestic sorrow that my paternal tenderness does not allow me to mention have suddenly made my state of prosperity and satisfaction fall into that of misery of misery and affliction [...] ". Tripet attaches a printout made by a relative which proves that he is "a second Job" and begs the Marquis of Montmorency to "adopt me for your florist [...] I am almost certain that with my flowers one only dies of extreme old age and that I have the proof of it by myself who am 70 years old". He begs his correspondent to give him this charity and adds "a refusal on your part can complete my death", the treasures of nature that are flowers and vegetables remain his only wealth. Tripet signs with these words: "Tripet father formerly known under the name of first minister of Flora, currently under the name of father Jacques Hermite simple [...]". Rare.
