Jean-Antoine CHAPTAL (1756-1832), chemist. Apostille A.S. (8 lines) following a letter signed by him, unfortunately cut at the head and foot. 2 pp. in-4. 8 Vendemiaire year 12 [1 October 1803]. He supports the request in favor of the spinning mills of Lévin Bauwens (1769-1822), famous engineer and industrialist from Ghent, who founded several important spinning mills in Paris and Ghent, after having spied on the English spinning mills and succeeded in bringing the Mule-jenny spinning machine to the British justice system in spare parts, which earned him a death sentence. The financial situation of the spinning mills being delicate following delays: "with regard to the position of the Bauwens brothers, it is such that without this help the fate of these manufacturers and that of the 3 most beautiful establishments of spinning and tannery which is working is suspended (?). The shaking of this house taking the ruin of 1800 families would entail the fall and the discredit of many factories of cotton spinning of which those of Bauwens are the model ".
