Pierre CARTELLIER (1757-1831), neo-classical sculptor. - Lot 433
Pierre CARTELLIER (1757-1831), neo-classical sculptor. Signed piece, also signed by the sculptor Charles DUPATY (1771-1825). 2 pp. in-folio. Paris, July 6, 1825. Monument to the memory of the duke of Berry of the place Louvois. "Supply of the marbles by Mr. Henraux": it is the detail of the expenses of supply of the "statuary marbles" intended for the sculpture of the monument, aimed by the two sculptors. [After the assassination of the duke of Berry, an expiatory monument was built on the Place Louvois on the site of the opera house on the rue de Richelieu. It shelters a funeral monument ordered to the sculptors Cartellier, Cortot and Dupaty. But after the revolution of 1830, the expiatory monument is destroyed and the funerary monument is brought to Saint-Denis near the remains of the prince; it is today behind the chevet of the basilica, near the sacristy]. Two engraved portraits and an engraved view of his tomb at Père Lachaise are attached.
