François BONVIN (1817-1887), painter of genre... - Lot 424 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
François BONVIN (1817-1887), painter of genre and still life, he painted in an admirable way the modest circles from which he comes. Autograph letter signed to Madame Martinet. 3 pp. in-12. Saint-Germain, November 20, 1879. He regrets his departure. "It is unfortunate that I am so incapacitated: although they are usually entrusted with the care of houses under construction, we would have come to spend the winter in Le Vésinet - it might have been fun and at least you would have been able to come back there safely and find company. I would have painted in the studio, and I would have painted the church and we would have given parties! But all this is nonsense and the real thing is the horrible disease that is killing me slowly and with great inflammations with unheard-of pain for music! I hope that your opera works better than I do, as I can hardly do it anymore []. I have never found, since we dined there, a lull in my sad suffering to go and visit your friends, whom we still love much more than their sumptuous feast; but if I were to resurrect, the first use of my health would be to go and risk it again to show them the sympathy we feel for them [] ".
