EASTERN PYRÉNÉES. Pierre DELBREL (1764-1846), conventionnal. - Lot 261
EASTERN PYRÉNÉES. Pierre DELBREL (1764-1846), conventionnal. Autograph letter signed. 1 p. large folio with header and vignette. Palau [Pyrénées-Orientales], 26 nivôse year 3 [15 January 1795]. Beautiful letter about the defense works in Palau during the Revolution. Being on mission with the army of the Pyrénées-Orientales, Delbrel reports on the situation. "In spite of the snow, the winds and the cold, our brothers in arms worked last night with more activity than ever before because we have established an order in this part of the country that had not yet existed. Every evening we gather the workers ourselves, we lead them to the trench and we stay with them until we see that everything is in great activity. As the weather is terrible and we don't want the work to be slowed down for a moment, we propose to spend the whole of next night in the trench and in the batteries. We must fight against the elements since they are combined against us. We must surprise our enemies with our constancy, with it we can overcome everything [] ". Pyrénées-Orientales : see also n°11
