André Étienne d'Audebert, baron FÉRUSSAC... - Lot 30 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
André Étienne d'Audebert, baron FÉRUSSAC (1786-1836), naturalist, zoologist and malacologist; he founded the Bulletin général et universel des annonces et des nouvelles scientifiques. Autograph letter signed to the naturalist Magnard, in Moras (Drôme). 3 pp. ½ in-4. Paris, January 24, 1821. Address on the back with wax seal. 2 corners cut. Beautiful on the death of the naturalist Jean-Pierre-Joseph Faure-Biguet (1750-1820). He says he is very affected by it, he had just prepared a sending for him; he promises that he will take care of his manuscripts and collections. "Without any doubt the long works of M. Faure-Biguet, his zeal for science, his talents, must make us desire the publication of the manuscripts he left []. If they are isolated memoirs or treatises on this or that part of isolated memoirs, I will easily be able to have them inserted in scientific journals and at no cost. If they are works which must be published separately, it would be necessary to see if they are of a nature to be bought by a bookseller or at least if a bookseller would undertake on agreed terms to publish them on his own account with the obligation to share the profits with his widow. Is the continuation of Draparnaud's work considerable? Are there any drawings? All this can only be judged by seeing them []. As for the books and collections, if Madame Faure Biguet does not find it possible to dispose of them advantageously in your country, where perhaps someone would be in a position to arrange for them, it would only be possible to see the advantage to be gained from the objects deposited here. In any case, whatever the plans of the widow and yours may be, sir, I will do whatever you think useful to the interests of the family of my excellent friend and will be happy to contribute to the publication of his work, from which science can only benefit a lot [] ". [Sionest and Faure-Biguet had published together, in 1808, a Catalogue of the fluviatile and terrestrial molluscs of the department of the Rhône].
