René Louiche DESFONTAINES (1750-1833), botanist,... - Lot 26 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
René Louiche DESFONTAINES (1750-1833), botanist, director of the Museum. Autograph letter signed to the botanist Louis-Guillaume Le Monnier (1717-1799). 2 pp. in-4. Paris, March 2, 1786. Interesting letter written on the return of his great expedition of more than two years in North Africa; this botanical mission in Barbary was made possible thanks to the help and support of Louis-Guillaume Le Monnier. "I arrived in Paris on Tuesday evening. I will have the honor to see you as soon as my health is a little restored. The journey has made me very tired; I feel weak and need a little rest []. I would have arrived much more quickly if it hadn't been for the bad weather in Provence during the month of January. My collection will arrive shortly. I hope that you will accept without reservation everything that will please you. I have only brought with me four boxes of insects and a beautiful live bird that will please you. I wish very ardently to have the honor to embrace you and to find in you the feelings of friendship of which you gave me so many marks and whose memory will never fade from my heart [] ".
