Simon-Louis-Pierre de CUBIÈRES (1747-1821),... - Lot 24 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Simon-Louis-Pierre de CUBIÈRES (1747-1821), naturalist and botanist. Autograph letter signed to citizen Duchesne, secretary of the Agricultural Society in Versailles. 3 pp. in-4. Versailles, the 1st brumaire [year 8, October 23, 1799]. Publication of his Memoir on bees. He has just read at the society of Nîmes his memoir on bees. "I found as much indulgence in my audience of Paris as benevolence in that of Versailles: but I do not blind myself to the success and I feel well that it belongs entirely to the interest that one carries to the winged people of which I spoke []. I expect from your friendship that you will deliver with attention the manuscript that I send you and that you will give it the honors of printing if you judge it worthy. If, as our colleague Leblond told me, you will one day put it in print for the society, I beg you to print, on my behalf, two hundred more copies and to follow the proofs, as I am going to be away. Like the bees, I am also going to fly and I would like to bring you some combs worthy of you from Italy. I also beg you, when you will have your presses working for my succiferous people, to send twelve copies of the work to the Society of Sciences [] ". He also asks him to have the beehive engraved. On the back, notes in Duchesne's hand which calculate the prices for the printing of the work.
