"List of effects contained in the box A.I. sent to Monseigneur de Bertin minister of state by his very humble servant Amiot M. [missionary] in Peking 1786". List of the 28 objects sent in the case. " n°1. Kou-kin-toung or Universal Chinese Medicine in 48 volumes enclosed in 6 Tao or envelopes []. 3. Yun-lo, his foot, plus 2 saucers, one of which is ivory and the other of a precious bamboo called in Chinese ouen-tchou []", but also seeds for Abbé Nolin, manuscripts for Brecquigny, varnishes from Japan, a stick of old age, "petrified wood used by the Tartars to sharpen their weapons", mineral earth similar to copper called "tsee-jen-toung", a "symbolic painting made with fire without brushes or colors. I enclose with this paint the sticks with which it was made", drugs "which enter into the composition of the fulminating needle", etc.
