René-Maria BURLET (1907-1994). The one who... - Lot 324 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
René-Maria BURLET (1907-1994). The one who cries, rhythm of water, 1968. Vinyl paint on canvas. Signed lower right. Countersigned, titled and dated on the back. 120 x 60 cm. The painter René-Maria BURLET, native of Savoy and installed since 1933 at 122 rue Saint Georges in Lyon, had taken the habit on the front of his paintings to identify them very precisely and to date them. On the back of this one, we learn that it was realized on December 14, 1968 in Lyon, in the studio of the painter where he animated the Academy The Minotaur. The artist, whose work is entirely inspired by the regulating lines and the golden ratio, constructs here a pictorial space composed of numerous curves and spirals that give the canvas a dynamic to the canvas a dynamic to the image of a flow. Far from a "figurative" representation of the element WATER, one must see in this composition the reflection of a universal philosophical thought. Indeed, René-Maria BURLET manifests by these interlacing the symbolic of water, inexhaustible source at the origin of life. Moreover, the double title of this work informs us a little more on the inspiration that guided the artist's mind: the first title, Celle qui pleure, refers to the sanctuary of La Salette, a harsh and mountainous site, generator of recurrent inspiration for BURLET. The one who cries could be the Virgin, the one who "knows" and who cries over the future fate of humanity. The second title Rythme d'eau and the date of 1968 could evoke the events of the month of May. Far from representing a peaceful water, the agitation of the curves could echo the echo the concerns felt by the artist during the effervescence of those days. Béatrix BURLET, art historian, artistic mediator, visual artist.
