Claude SIMON (1913-2005), Nobel Prize for Literature. - Lot 220
Claude SIMON (1913-2005), Nobel Prize for Literature. Autograph letter signed to the American professor Alex S. Jones. 1 p. in-4. Salses, August 10, 1989. 1 p. in-4. Envelope enclosed. Beautiful letter about his writing and his work. "I have always wanted and believed to do literary work, but I became aware only little by little of what it could really be. Perhaps a step in this direction was taken when I wrote The Grass (???...). 2° From this very novel onwards, all the following ones are based on my life. So: the people I met during my rather eventful youth (the revolution in Barcelona, the war, etc), my parents. 3° I don't write in an easy way. My drafts are extremely erased. But that's the job. I will confess that I try as much as possible to avoid romantic vocabulary (and therefore my conduct). Thus the expression "writing in pain".
