Valéry GISCARD D'ESTAING. 5 typed letters signed to differen - Lot 203
Valéry GISCARD D'ESTAING. 5 typed letters signed to different correspondents. 5 pp. in-4 on his letterhead. 1982-1985. Interesting political correspondence. Assessment of his seven-year term on actions in favor of the elderly. "In accordance with the commitments I made, the minimum old age pension has increased in real terms, i.e. after deducting the increase in prices, by more than 60 % in seven years. This represents more than double the improvement in household income and France has thus been at the forefront of efforts undertaken in favor of the elderly among the world's major countries []. Old age should not be synonymous with exclusion. This is why I have taken systematic action to enable the elderly to remain in their homes []". On the subject of terrorism: "I would like to remind you that there is a fundamental rule that I have always endeavored to uphold: we must do everything possible to prevent our country from becoming a place where terrorists can move around and act with impunity []". He thanks his personal support "in the disgraceful campaign of which I was the object", and refuses to make any judgment on the foreign policy of France "because of the functions which were mine []. But I am obliged to agree with you that the conditions of this commemoration had the potential to offend, especially those who live with the pain of remembrance []".
