PYRENEES. Joseph ANGLADA (Céret, Pyrénées-Orientales... - Lot 133 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
PYRENEES. Joseph ANGLADA (Céret, Pyrénées-Orientales 1775-1833), chemist and physician, he did important work on the waters of the Pyrenees and published a Traité des eaux minérales et des établissements thermaux du département des Pyrénées-Orientales (1833). Autograph letter signed to chemist Henry Ossian. 5 ½ pp. in-4. Montpellier, June 4, 1829. Address on the back. Long and interesting letter entirely devoted to his work on the waters of the Pyrenees. "[] When I established that sulfurous waters most often recognized as a characteristic element, not the free hydrosulfuric acid, as had been proclaimed until now, but this acid combined and in the state of hydrosulfate, I was content to express a fact that my own experiments had revealed to me []. This hydrosulfate is associated in the waters I have examined with an alkaline carbonate and both salts are present without any appreciable excess of their respective acids. I thought I could deduce that, for these waters at least, the two salts were of primitive formation, or in other words, direct products of the subterranean elaboration that gives rise to the sulfurous thermal waters of our Pyrenees []".
