GERS. Alexis de GOURGUES. Autograph manuscript... - Lot 50 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
GERS. Alexis de GOURGUES. Autograph manuscript (2 pp. ½ in-4), accompanied by 2 plates of drawings (19 x 15 cm and 24 x 39 cm), in ink on very thin tracing paper, fixed on a strong paper support. Discovery of bones and prehistoric tools at the foot of a wall located in Pauilhac, in the vicinity of Lectoure. Article from the Revue de Gascogne describing the tools. "This flint is of a very pale gray, making a clear sound, it is a triangular knife with two edges, of arched form, as represented in figure I. The string that joins the two ends is 345 millimeters. Fig. 6 shows the convex face, the edge of which has been partly cut off []. Fig. 7 gives the concave face remarkable for its moiré varnish. These two faces are perfectly smooth and united and one does not find there any of these asperities which one notes in all the flints obtained by successive breaks []. About 15 meters from this flint, we found in the middle of a layer of gravel, an axe made of very dark green jade, represented at a scale of half by figures 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 [] ".
