Address on the back with wax stamp (broken). Campaign in Russia. Letter written after his wound at the Battle of Vitebsk on July 27, 1812. "I hasten to inform you, my good mother, that H.M. has just ordered me to be a Knight of the Legion of Honour. You can imagine by the price I paid for the pleasure I felt in receiving it. I had my horse killed under me on the 27th in front of Witepsk and two bullets, one in the head and the other in my coat. Now that I am well and very happy, I have to look at it like any good soldier as a happy accident []. I announce to you, my dear mother, that following the orders I received from H.M. he sent me to Naples with dispatches for H.M. the Queen. I left the gal impal quarter on the 29th of last month, and I leave within two days to continue my journey. I pass through Vienna and Venice [] ". He recalls his Legion of Honour and his injury.
