[Epigraphy] Alfred Bel (1873-1945), Arab... - Lot 246 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
[Epigraphy] Alfred Bel (1873-1945), Arab orientalist, director of the Médersa de Tlemcen from 1905 to 1935. 2 L.A.S. and 1 manuscript piece, with drawing and inscriptions. Tlemcen (Algeria), June 1903. 2 pp. ½ in-folio and 3 pp. in-8. One with a letterhead from the Médersa of Tlemcen. Discovery of a Latin inscription in Algeria. He draws the block of stone and transcribes the inscription in 4 lines. "The inscription, reproduced as faithfully as possible above, is engraved on a block of sandstone of the same face as the sandstones of Bou Medina. This block of stone is in the form of a thick and very roughly squared slab with an average thickness of 0.13m, a length of 0.80m and a height of 0.50m []. The inscription was discovered a few months ago by M. Perdrizet, a teacher at Tlemcen College in a stream (Oued Methkâna) below the village of Bou Medina []. In a second letter, he sends a photo (absent here) and gives details of the transcription and its interpretation.
