Jules Dumont d'Urville. L.A.S. to Louise de Croisilles. Toulon [aboard the vessel La Ville de Marseille], November 14, 1812. 3 pp. ½ in-4. Address on the back. Tear in the second page at the opening of the letter carrying a few words. On paper with double watermark of Napoleon "Emperor and King" and of the French Empire with the imperial eagle. Very moving letter written after their reunion which ended in tears, Louise's father, after a violent argument, opposed their affair. I could not resist the thought that they were addressed to me by your own father in his own house, that they fell upon you, my friend, to whose honor and reputation I had sacrificed my happiness and my blood, and for perhaps the first time in my life tears ran down from my eyes....
