China. 1 letter, 1 manuscript and 1 drawing. -... - Lot 231 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
China. 1 letter, 1 manuscript and 1 drawing. - Charles-Eudes Bonin (1865-1929), explorer and diplomat, he made several voyages of exploration through Laos and China, from 1893 to 1901, when he was appointed consul in Beijing. L.A.S. Beijing, November 6, 1901. 4 pp. in-12. Heading of the Legation of the French Republic in China. Response to a proposal to undertake a voyage of exploration of the Yangtze River or Manchuria. After an evocation of his trip from Tong-Kou to Beijing, he responds to his "very tempting" proposal. "The Yangtze is a bit far away and it would take a long time to get out of the usual excursions; Manchuria seems more practical and interesting at the moment. But there are difficulties, our friends do not like to be looked at from their side. However, your relations with the officials would no doubt enable us to remove the obstacle, and I think I can get here to accompany you. In that case we would have the choice between the following two itineraries - unless you prefer a third one: 1° from Dalmy to Moukden, Kharbin, Tsitsikhar, the Khingan Mountains and the Siberian border by the transmandchurian with return via Kharbin, Moukden, Newchwarz and Shanhai-kouan [] ". - Chinese manuscript. Nineteenth century. 102 pp. in-8, fine paper (first 2 leaves torn off), soft leather binding. Manuscript decorated with 2 drawings of human figures with ideograms positioned on some parts of the face, possibly acupuncture points. Very manipulated work, crumpled corners. - Large original drawing in ink, signed " Paulyang ", 100 x 60 cm, on rice paper. Bad condition (tears with lacks). Early 19th century. Scene of a procession around a temple (Jesuit?) with Chinese ideograms on some pediments.
