²Fine arts. Correspondence of 45 letters... - Lot 222 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
²Fine arts. Correspondence of 45 letters addressed to the sculptor Jules Thomas (1824-1905), Grand Prix de Rome and member of the Academy of Fine Arts. 1851-1896. Set of letters from artists and friends, mostly French (some foreigners), some written during the Commune. They often deal with artistic subjects, as in this letter signed by the blind animal sculptor Louis VIDAL (1831-1892), thanking him for his intervention with the Fine Arts Department. "I am all the more happy about this, as it would be the beginning of an interest that the Fine Arts Department would like to show me []. Last year you proposed a workshop in one of the state buildings on Rue de l'Université. I think that with all the great difficulties I have in paying for mine, I would be very happy to obtain this favour as soon as possible, next term, which would be one more facility to finish my next exhibition. I enclose the photograph of my tiger, I would have liked to send one to Mr. Guillaume [Eugène Guillaume who was director of the Fine Arts of Paris from 1864 to 1878] and thank him for his good intentions [] ".
