Poster of the decree of the National Convention of 27 brumaire year 2 [17 nov. 1793] concerning the relations of the French Republic with other political societies, and more particularly with the United States of America. "Article 1. The National Convention declares in the name of the people of Francis, that its constant resolution is to be terrible to its enemies, generous to its allies, just to all peoples. II. The treaties which bind France to the United States of America and the cantons shall be faithfully executed [] V. The committee of public salvation is charged with the task of dealing with the means of strengthening more and more the bonds of alliance and friendship which unite the French Republic with the Swiss cantons and the United States of America. VI. In all discussions on the particular objects of the respective claims, he will prove to the cantons and the United States, by all means compatible with the compelling circumstances in which the Republic finds itself, the feelings of equity, benevolence and esteem in which the French nation is animated towards them []".
