Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737-1814),... - Lot 6 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
Jacques-Henri Bernardin de Saint-Pierre (1737-1814), botanist and writer, traveller and academician, succeeded Buffon as intendant of the King's Garden. L.A.S. to the botanist André Thouin (1747-1824). December 24, 1792. 1 p. in-8. "Father Nollin [Nolin, general manager of the King's Nurseries] told me yesterday that it was necessary for Mr. Thouin to send him a note of the fruit trees that the stewardship garden needed as well as those that might be suitable for the Plant Garden. He will have it signed by the minister. Without this formality, Mr. Couturier does not want trees to be taken away from the nursery. It will be the same for the note that I gave to Mr. Nollin on my behalf, either that these trees be given to me according to the old use or that they be sold to me because I offer to pay for them if they are sold". He would have liked him to accompany him on this occasion, but it is useless because the trees are not in Paris. He invites him to give him the notes requested and to come to his home to talk to him about the warning about the contribution of the Jardin des Plantes.
