ETIENNE MORILLON (1884-1949) 1884 Born in Soucieu on 16 July 1884. Son of Benoît Morillon and Marie Girard, who ran a cloth shop in the village square. Etienne is the second child of the family. 1889 Primary studies at the Soucieu school. Then secondary studies in Lyon, with the Lazarists, Montée Saint Barthélémy. 1904 Military service in the 54th Artillery Regiment. 1905-1910 School of Fine Arts in Paris. Etienne Morillon discovers the artistic movements in vogue: pointillism, fauvism, cubism. He frequents young painters such as Derain and Utrillo. During the summer holidays, he returns to his native country and, in the company of his brothers Charles and Antoine, both photographers, he travels by bicycle through the villages of the Lyonnais region. His brothers have started creating postcards; Etienne often poses in the middle of a group or as a foreground. This is how we can affirm that he was the most photographed painter in France. 1907 One summer Sunday, with his friend Félix Ferry, he went to Saint Vincent d'Agny and painted a picture of the chapel. This small painting is kept by Jeanne Ferry. 1908 Paints the large painting "The Coursanges Sisters". Participation in the Salon d'automne de Lyon (25 September - 30 November), Palais municipal des expositions quai de Bondy. Throughout his life he exhibited regularly at this annual fair. 1911 Return to Lyon. Settles in Paul Borel's former studio, 11, rue Clotilde Bizolon. 1914 Marries Rose Desrats on 2 April 1914 in Lyon. Two sons are born from this union: Pierre and Paul. 1914-1918 Etienne Morillon is mobilised during the war and is heavily gassed. 1919 Etienne Morillon exhibition (1st to 16th December). 1920 Birth of the group: "Les Ziniars
