Ghelderode explains, in the style peculiar to his fantasy world, that he cannot bend to the demands of producing an article. In passing, he emphasizes his admiration for the mystical poet Ruysbroeck. "On my return from Paris, I had to enter a Brabant landscape of the 14th century, at its beginning, on the edge of the ancient Celtic forest of the Sun - the Bois de Soignes - where Ruysbroec the Admirable took refuge to write under the dictation of angels; but this is theatre, and that is why I found myself a little lost and only knowing how to speak about the perpetual values of my dream, Flanders land, vision and school of art, out of the prudent today. I would have written the balanced study on Belgium that you were expecting, and of good quality, but coldly and with the patience of the chartist [...]".
