BOSSCHÈRE, Jean de. Set of 6 letters (4 L.A.S.... - Lot 15 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
BOSSCHÈRE, Jean de. Set of 6 letters (4 L.A.S. and 2 L.D.S.) to the poet Hubert Dubois. Vulaines-sur-Seine and Paris, 1933-1937 and n.d. 8 pp. in-4 or in-12. A letterhead to his address. Nice correspondence from the "pariah of French letters", friend of James Joyce and Antonin Artaud, Jean de Bosschère. 1933, about the literary world and publishing. "As for the complaint, it seems to me that there was no need to insult me publicly. A large number of people are, I know, aware of S.N.'s project. If the magazine reappears, I would consider the insult to be deliberate; it is not childish. You can't look in your loneliness for an elder to betray him publicly in this way. If it does not reappear, the adventure will join others, among whom there are some incredible ones, but whose reality is supported by the letters. If the fantasy that now possesses me remains with me, one day I will make a few pages of all this to serve as a secret study of the hearts of the poets (two or three) who, in order to seduce the young, have put a little surrealism in their little droppings of the wealthy bourgeoisie [...]". He invited Hubert Dubois to come and talk with him, particularly about his "Elskamp l'Admirable", and suggested that he write the frontispiece for his next collection of poems. "I draw very little today, but for you I would take my pencils to sleep with the greatest pleasure. I mean that I would draw them again from the rest that I have just interrupted to make the thirty portraits that you would have had to be if I had had the pleasure of seeing you". He also discusses the purity "of an agonizing rarity" even among poets, and mentions Elskamp, his lifelong friend. "In fact, I can no longer, at least for a while, talk about Elskamp. I'm left too alone with him. I wait ...".
