ARNAUD, François (1721-1784), journalist... - Lot 4 - Conan Belleville Hôtel d'Ainay
ARNAUD, François (1721-1784), journalist and academician, he directed the Journal Étranger (1760-1762), then the Gazette de France (from 1766) and founded the Gazette littéraire de l'Europe (1764). L.A.S. 1 p. in-4, written following a letter from M. Lehoux (March 19, 1760, 2 pp. in-4). Small stain and small consolidated tears. He thanks his correspondent for the follow-up he gave to a recommendation, and mentions his situation when he took over the reins of the Journal Étranger (January 1760). "I will tell you nothing of my situation, Sir, it deserves to be happier; I have sought in the letters a distraction to my sorrows; I wanted to know if it would not be possible to give a real and solid existence to a work which until now has existed only by its title; here I am at the head of the Journal Étranger. I beg you to tell the scholars of the country where you are, Sir, that this work is a monument which I am raising to the glory of our neighbours, and that it is up to them to provide me with the means to give this edifice all the extent and magnificence to which it is susceptible. If any of your scholars had any essays, notices, literary short stories to send me, it would be a kindness to send them to Mr. Moreau [].
