George Howard DARWIN (1845-1912), fils de Charles Darwin, astronome et mathématicien. 2 lettres autographes signées au botaniste Gaetano Durando (1811-1892), à Alger. 3 pp. in-8. Busnah El Beir et Villa Beau Séjour [Algérie], 20 février et 1er avril 1879. Enveloppes timbrées colées au dos des lettres. Lettres écrites durant son séjour en Algérie. « It would give my brother and myself much pleasure if you would come here to luncheon on Tuesday next the 25th. I am afraid it is a long climb with only a small inducement, as you would be our only guest, but we hope you will not think it is too far to come ». Il lui annonce son départ d'Algérie. « Have you seen Sir John Lubbock ; I went over to his house in Friday & was charmed with the place. He tells me that he is only going to stay a fortnight, which is a very short visit for so long a journey. I am taking home some of his bulbs which you were king enough to bring & the rest I leave for Mrs Maclennan. Pray accept my thanks for them on behalf of my father […] ».
