Joseph DECAISNE (1807-1882), botanist, professor at the Musé - Lot 42
Joseph DECAISNE (1807-1882), botanist, professor at the Muséum, president of the Société Botanique de France. 3 autograph letters signed to botanist Édouard Timbal-Lagrave (1819-1888). 4 pp. in-8, Muséum letterheads. 1860-1868. One letter a little yellowed (with cutout on second blank sheet) and tear (without lack) to another. "M. de Schoenefeld informs me that you wish to make a slight change to one of the engraved figures accompanying your Note sur les orchidées [Timbal-Lagrave published a Note sur de nouvelles hybrides d'orchidées in 1860]. As this change will entail the creation of a new drawing on wood, I have come to ask you to kindly send me in a letter the dried flower you wish to see reproduced". He acknowledges receipt of his shipment of young branches of the Carrière pear. "It was easy for me to see the difference with the Vemillon, which is a rather mediocre fruit". He informs him that he has just received a package of dried plants from J. Dalton Hooker of Kew, to give to Dorvault, director of the Pharmacie centrale. "I remember with happiness the time when I impatiently awaited the arrival of a shipment for my herbarium, and as I suppose you have the same passion, I recommend to M. Dorvault not to put your patience to too long a test".
