Carl Adolph AGARDH (1785-1859), Swedish botanist. - Lot 1
Carl Adolph AGARDH (1785-1859), Swedish botanist. L.A.S. addressed to Benjamin Gaillon (1782-1839), botanist specializing in marine plants. Paris, November 16, 1820. 1 p. in-4. Address on verso and red wax seal with CA numeral. Approximate French. Interesting scientific letter from Agardh. He requests samples of algae collected by his colleague and adds "The first volume of my Species algarum, which contains a general description, and the first section of my Icones Algarum Ineditae have just appeared [...]". "[...] I have long been involved in the study of aquatic algae [...] I came to Paris from the northern heights mainly to learn about the collections of algae there, having worked on several works on this family". He would send him his publications as soon as he returned to Sweden, and asked for the species discovered by Gaillon to be included: "I would then be able to give you the names of your aquatic plants in my species [...]".
