Paul GERVAIS (1816-1879), zoologist and paleontologist, prof - Lot 25
Paul GERVAIS (1816-1879), zoologist and paleontologist, professor at the Muséum, member of the Académie des sciences. Autograph letter signed, 1 p. ½ in-8. "Académie des sciences de Montpellier, séance du 11 juin 1849". On the subject of the Montpellier fossil monkey. "In the last minutes I sent you, is a note from me on the Montpellier fossil monkey. You will oblige me greatly by adding these few words, which should be placed before the passage on the beaver. "On the contrary, it is to a species of guenon (cercopithecus) that M. de Christol attributes the monkey bones he has just reported in marine sands (Bull. soc. Geol. De France, 1849)". If the wording of the above requires any change in this short addition to my note already sent, please do so yourself [...]".
