Alexandre BRONGNIART (1770-1847), mineralogist. Autograph letter signed to physicist Alexandre-Claude-Martin Le Baillif (1764-1831), specialist in high-precision scientific instruments. 2 pp. in-4. March 5, 1825. Address on back. On his mineralogical and geological collections. He sends her the maps he needs. "You have numerous rights to be admitted and welcomed in the galleries of the Museum whenever you present yourself there". He will receive him in person, and will be pleased to "make the personal acquaintance of a distinguished amateur whom I have known by name for a long time. I thank you for the copy you kindly sent me of your essay on the blowtorch. I have it from you, and it has become more precious to me than the one I bought a while ago. I only regret not having been aware of it when I wrote my introduction to mineralogy over a year ago. I also regret, sir, not being able to offer you the opportunity of continuing on my collection, the research you were doing on those of the illustrious scholars you mention. But apart from the fact that it was far inferior in merit to theirs, I have completely destroyed it since I became a professor at the Muséum. I have placed in this great collection, of which I have custody and use, all the pieces of science that might be suitable for it in any respect, and I have dispersed the rest in my geological collection or in my duplicates to be donated [...]".
