Family and business letters: failure to vaccinate a little girl, family considerations, current affairs, in particular his appointment as mayor of Gap: "The first detachment of our national guard left on the 4th of this month; but the final organization of the officers is not yet complete [...]. To my great regret, I have just been appointed mayor of Gap. I had expressed the greatest repugnance to our prefect for this position; he responded by giving me holy water during the day. Finally, after having retired with 35 years of service to enjoy a few moments of rest and tranquility, here I am at the head of a very thankless, very boring administration to which I am a complete stranger [...]". Attached is a letter from Jouvent to the public prosecutor at the Hautes-Alpes criminal court (Embrun, year 7), concerning proceedings against citizen Fantin. - Jean-Irénée DEPÉRY (1796-1861), bishop of Gap (1844-1861). L.A.S. and L.S. 1 p. ½ in-8. 1844 and s.d. Letterheads of the bishopric of Gap. To Abbé Martigny announcing his reception by the Pope: "At 10 a.m. tomorrow, April 4, Mgr l'évêque de Gap will be received by the Pope. M. Martigny will be able to be at the Vatican a little before that time". To Petrus at the time of his installation in Gap. "The bishop of Gap has inherited all of Abbé Depéry's friends, there is nothing changed in him but the color, and you will be in his new home as you were in Belley [...]".
