[Henri BECQUEREL]. Julien THORE, physicist and physician in - Lot 128
[Henri BECQUEREL]. Julien THORE, physicist and physician in Dax, discoverer of a "new force". In 1887, Dr. Julien Thore published a small notice in Dax about the discovery he claimed to have made, entitled "Une nouvelle force?", a force inherent in the human organism. It was the subject of a contradictory report by English physicist William Crookes, published by the Royal Society in its bulletin of May 26, 1887. The present dossier, sent by Julien Thore to Henri Becquerel for report to the Société d'Encouragement, comprises: - a 9 pp. in-4 manuscript with a sketch on tracing paper: "Extract from Chemical News vol. LV n°1436: Sur une "Nouvelle force" supposée de Mr J. Thore. Abstract of a paper to the Royal Society of London May 26, 1887 by Will. Crookes F.R.S. President C.S.". - Autograph manuscript signed by J. Thore: "Réponse à la communication de Mr Crookes" (5 pp. in-4) - a letter from Thore to Henri Becquerel (Dax, June 26, 1887), annotated at the top by Becquerel: "M. Becquerel Henri, rapporteur - Comité des arts économiques, séance du 21 juillet 1887".
