Henri BECQUEREL. Autograph manuscript, 19 pp. in-4 (includin - Lot 125
Henri BECQUEREL. Autograph manuscript, 19 pp. in-4 (including 7 in Henri Becquerel's hand), [late 1895]. "Observations météorologiques faites dans la Haute-Sangha (Congo français) par Mr Ferrière, résumées par Mr Becquerel, professeur au Muséum". Henri Becquerel summarizes the data collected, day by day, over an entire year in Haute-Sangha (Central African Republic). The manuscript includes Ferrière's 12 daily data sheets. After analyzing all this data, Becquerel concludes: "In concluding this exposé, I cannot help expressing one regret, which is that we were unable to collect the quantity of water that fell. Moreover, the substitution of recording thermometers and barometers for direct-reading instruments would provide much more complete results, but we must nonetheless thank and congratulate Mr. Ferrière on the conscientious work he has carried out, which constitutes an important document on the climatology of Central Africa". Attached is an 8 pp. in-4 printout: "Mémoire sur les températures observées sous le sol, au Muséum d'Histoire Naturelle, pendant l'hiver 1890-1891 par M. Henri Becquerel", with a few annotations in Becquerel's own hand.
