Charles GRENIER (Besançon 1808-1875), botanist, author of important phytogeographical works on the Jura; co-author of the Flore de France (1847-1856); his herbarium is preserved at the Muséum de Paris. 4 autograph letters signed to Honoré Ardoïno. 15 pp. in-8. Besançon, January - October 1862. Considerations on botany following receipt of his Catalogue de la Flore de Menton et Monaco. "While reading this brochure, I drew up a list of plants which I would be most obliged if you would collect for me when they come to hand. Some of them I don't have at all, while others appear on this list as plants whose presence I'd like to confirm in your region, by fixing an authentic specimen in my herbarium, even though the plant is reputed to be common. It's a question of botanical geography. It seems to me that you must have more Cerostium than you report. For example, the C. aggregotum Dordan, so common in Toulon, is not to be found here. I have some doubts about the authenticity of Erodium carneum jord. But a seed has sprouted, so I have a live plant and I'm waiting for it to flower. I'll tell you more about it later. Please collect for me seeds of all Mr. Jordan's new Erodium species, I want to grow them [...]". He draws up a long list of his desiderata...
