Auguste GRAS (Nice 1819-1874), botanist and librarian. 5 autograph letters signed to Honoré Ardoïno. 14 pp. in-8 in dense handwriting. Grosso and Turin, 1862-1863. Beautiful correspondence on his botanical discoveries. "I'll tell you first that I took [Alexis] Jordan with me, and I'm trying to fit a few species from these surroundings into my descriptions. This is how I recognized Filago caneans and Viola agnestis, as well as the real Dianthuy [...]. Then I made a few herborizations within the limits of my Flora, which brought me, mirabile dicta! four new species for my book. Here they are: 1. Rubus thyrsoidens Wimm. A magnificent species, very distinct from its congeners. M. Godron has described it to perfection; not one of the clear-cut characters he describes is missing from my plant. I consider it a real find, a real Visc! I had never encountered this species [...]".
