"I am writing these few lines to ask you for 1 or 2 samples of the Serapias negluta which grows in the vicinity of Menton. I have not yet been able to obtain this species here, which I would be very happy to include in an Iconography I am preparing of the Orchids of the Nice area, and which I intend to publish if I can gather all the material for this work. I would also be delighted to receive any orchid species you would like to send me [...]. I hope, my dear friend, that you will excuse my importunity, but I cannot resist writing to you to ask for this Serapias which I would be so pleased to see, as I already have all the other species of the genus, and also a nice drawing of the Ser. Trialaba Viv. collected last month near Berre. Adieu, dear friend, give me news of your Flora, and if I can be of any service to you, please count on me [...]".
