Autograph letter signed to naturalist Jean Hermann (1738-1800), professor of chemistry and natural history in Strasbourg, whose collections are at the origin of that city's Natural History Museum. 2 pp. in-4. Nancy, Sept. 30, 1786. Address on back. "I have just been looking through a huge collection of recipes and remedies published over the last ten years, and I find the following articles analogous to your work. Please write to me if I should send you all of them, or specify which ones you would like. 1° Bowls of cobwebs, long advertised as specific against intermittent fevers. 2° Viper broths to purify the blood [...]". He lists 18 more curious animal-based recipes (toads, lizards, horseshoe crabs, vipers, etc.).
