Hugh Edwin STRICKLAND (1811-1853), British ornithologist and geologist. Autograph letter signed to British ornithologist and naturalist John GOULD (1804-1881). Oxford, February 5, 1847. 2 pp. ½ in-8. About John Gould's book on the Birds of Australia, illustrated by his wife Elizabeth Gould (1804-1841). He also mentions the hummingbirds brought back from South America by French ornithologist Pierre Adolphe Delattre (1805-1854), following his expeditions to America: "I see a great many new Hummingbirds described in the Revue Zoologique for 1846 brought from Mexico and the Andes by M. de Lattre. Some of them are in the collection of Mr Edward Welson [...]". Edward Adrian Wilson (1872-1912) was an English polar explorer, naturalist and ornithologist with an extensive natural history collection, including drawings.
