Charles Nicolas Sigisbert SONNINI DE MANONCOURT (1751-1812), - Lot 60
Charles Nicolas Sigisbert SONNINI DE MANONCOURT (1751-1812), naturalist; explored French Guiana and served as Buffon's secretary. Autograph letter signed [probably to the publisher Buisson]. 2 pp. in-4. Vienne (Isère), October 20, 1806. Some wear and tears. He has sent him "materials for the Library" (Bibliothèque physico-économique [...] sur les découvertes les plus intéressantes [...]), asks him to advertise works in the Bulletin, and wishes to know what Cointeraux's response has been. "If he agrees, I'll send you the plate that will look good in our journal. In the meantime, Mr. Mecklein will kindly procure a few figure articles." He struck off the list some contributors to the Library who are no longer active. He received a request to exchange the Bibliothèque for the Annales de l'architecture et des arts, which he accepted but received nothing in return. "In telling you, in my last letter, about the copies of the 60th issue of Buffon that are coming back to me, I forgot to tell you that M. Doret was in charge of distributing to my subscribers in Paris the copies intended for them [...]". He asks him for one more favor. "I have made an arrangement with M. Garnery and through M. Latreille concerning the tangaroes he publishes". He would like him to pay him one louis a month out of his salary.
