Pierre-Isaac POISSONNIER (1720-1798), physician, of the Roya - Lot 53
Pierre-Isaac POISSONNIER (1720-1798), physician, of the Royal Academy of Sciences. Autograph letter signed to "Monseigneur", 3 pp. in-folio. Paris, December 13, 1780. Venereal diseases. He gives his opinion on the method of Dr. Mittié, of the Paris faculty, for treating "venereal disease" with plants. His method "would certainly deserve preference over all others if it were well proven that by plants alone he obtained cures as prompt and as solid as by the use of mercury so often dreaded by these same subjects through the complication of scurvy with smallpox". He recommended that he carry out trials in Brest hospitals, and that a commission of the Royal Society of Medicine make a decision based on the results. A draft reply is attached (1 p. ½ in-folio, Dec. 31, 1780).
