Stanislas MEUNIER (1843-1925), geologist and mineralogist. Autograph letter signed to "dear sir and friend". 2 pp. in-8, Muséum letterhead. Paris, Dec. 25, 1902. Explains the "equipment necessary for the determination of minerals and rocks". "I hasten to reveal to you the mystery of this equipment, which must be very simple, or else I shall miss the point entirely. No microscope, but a magnifying glass with 2 or 3 lenses (biloupe or triloupe) to vary the magnifications. This is worth about 5 francs. Then a platinum-tipped Berzelius flashlight (4 to 8 f.) [...]. A few reagents such as borax, phosphorus salt, soda ash (about 25 cents each). A very small bottle of hydrochloric acid [...]".
