Oscar LECLERC-THOUIN (1798-1845), naturalist, naturalist ass - Lot 43
Oscar LECLERC-THOUIN (1798-1845), naturalist, naturalist assistant to the Chair of Culture at the Muséum. Autograph letter signed to naturalist Charles-Marie d'Orbigny (1770-1856) "correspondent and naturalist of the Muséum de Paris, in La Rochelle". 1 p. ½ in-8. Paris, November 29, 1825. Address on back. "There is no inconvenience in your putting the fine consignment you are sending me in the same box that will contain the objects for the museum. I would only ask you to put my particular address (O. Leclerc-Thoüin, naturalist's assistant) on the box containing the eggs. The small crate I prepared for you would have already left if Mr Ferrussac wasn't expecting Mr Fleurieu de Bellevue in Paris in a few days' time. He may even have already arrived. As in the past, these gentlemen will forward this shipment to you, as well as any others I may send you in the future. From next January, I'll send you the assortment of seeds you've requested. I won't forget the bedding flowers, the climbing cobia or the Rheum palmatum. You'll have it all. Receive, sir, with my new thanks, for the care you are taking to increase my collection, the assurance of my perfect and complete devotion". He congratulates his son [Alcide d'Orbigny] on his new position, and adds: "Most of the bulbs are already in the ground. We have only the most common species left, which are not worth sending".
